Medical negligence may have contributed to MF DOOM's death, rapper's wife alleges
An inquest into the death of MF DOOM has raised concerns about the hospital treatment he received in the lead up to his death back in 2020.
According to Leeds Live, Jasmine Dumile, the wife of the late masked rapper, told Wakefield Coroner's Court that his death was caused by negligence. As well as suggesting that DOOM was given a makeshift room that didn't resemble an actual hospital room, Dumile also claimed that he wasn't being checked on regularly and had been unable to alert staff to his deteriorating condition as his bedside buzzer was out of reach. She said that DOOM had phoned phoned her “in distress” while in hospital as his reaction got worse.
Partner Jasmine explained that her husband had been suffering from health conditions including kidney disease and high blood pressure, leading to weight gain and anxiety. The rapper developed breathing problems after taking some prescribed ACE inhibitors and was hospitalised at St James’ hospital in Leeds and placed on a respirator as his condition worsened.
MF DOOM passed aged 49 in October 2020. In a statement announcing his death, Jasmine described him as: “the greatest husband, father, teacher, student, business partner, lover and friend I could ever ask for.”
Born in London but raised in New York, MF Doom - real name Dumile Daniel Thompson - is widely hailed as one of hip-hop's greatest and most iconic figures.
The inquest is ongoing. We'll continue to report on this story as it develops.
