KAVYA and Goya Team Up On Downtempo Single 'Fences'

The collaboration came about following a personality test

Clocking in at just two minutes and thirty seconds, 'Fences' opens with soft, cinematic synths, as a candid voice clip from KAVYA plays out, creating a sense of intimacy as we hear her wish to do something "all over again...from the start".

Layered production crescendos and then snaps, as KAVYA's velvety vocals sing the track's lyrical refrain: "Pick your fences where the grass will never end".

The single is a collaboration between New Dehli artists KAVYA (Kavya Trehan) and Goya (Abhishek Sekhri). Having worked together on an instrumental track months ago, electronic producer Goya and singer/songwriter KAVYA discovered they had a synergetic ‘voice’ that complemented each other’s musical direction.

The second time the pair met, they decided to take a personality test, the results of which ended up inspiring the lyrics, arrangement and final production of 'Fences'. The song's message speaks of drive and grit, that the only way onwards is upwards.

“In 'Fences' the production narrates the journey of a strong, confident and adventurous individual who is redefining they’re beliefs and choices. In terms of sound I achieved this with particular emphasis on the drums and bass - they exude strength and assertiveness. Supporting these elements are ethereal, evolving pads in the background, adding layers of depth to the track," Goya said.

Both KAVYA and Goya see co-creating as a priceless opportunity to birth new perspectives and creative journeys. 'Fences' serves as a reminder that the shared goal of creating art holds more importance than personal preferences and attachments.
