John Alone's 'African English' EP exists at the intersection of two cultures

London-based R&B vocalist John Alone is continuing his fine form this year with the release of his new EP, ‘African English’.

Made up of three uniquely catchy singles ‘On The Low’, ‘Sankofa’ and ‘Ready Now?’, the project intersects the artist’s heritage and upbringing while showcasing his ultra smooth Afrobeat-leaning sound. 

Inspired by John’s own background and the music prevalent on the African continent, but embellished by his British upbringing and cultural outlook, the EP was created as a fun nod and celebration of the melting pot created by the meshing together of different groups of people.  

While ‘Ready Now?’ and ‘On the Low’ were already released as singles in the run up to the project, ‘African English’ brings with it a brand new offering which boils down the central themes of existence as a Black British immigrant. Titled ‘Sankofa’, the upbeat cut takes the best parts of inspiration from his Ghanaian co-conspirators, Dashindigg and NickSilver, to create something that’s neither Nigerian, Ghanaian or British, but an altogether blend of the three.
