Headie One hosts his own Met Gala-inspired party in the music video for 'Cry' taken from brand new mixtape

Drill poster-boy Headie One’s brand new mixtape ‘Too Loyal for My Own Good’ has landed, and its thirteen tracks demonstrate a new level of maturity from his chart topping debut album ‘Edna‘ that positioned him at the pinnacle of UK Drill, as the first drill album that reached No. 1 in the UK Charts, delivering the genre to a global audience.

Whereas virtually every track on ‘Edna’ was a heavy-hitting banger in itself, with his new mixtape, Headie puts his mind to a collection of tracks that veer toward Afrobeats, on ‘Louis Vuitton Collar’ and ‘Finer Things’, plus an a capella section on ‘Indecisive Interlude’, tied together with an automated voice recording dispersed over more than one track, necessitating a chronological listening order. Headie has proven his versatility without shaking his values or the themes and corresponding sounds of his past – the mixtape is littered with trap high-hats, ominous drill basslines – evoking a sense of the passing of time.

As a space dedicated for flexing his individual lyricism entirely, this mixtape includes zero features, but comes through with BURNS, Cage Beats, Ghosty, TSB, JAE5, and M1onTheBeat as producers. To mark the occasion, Headie whose real name is Irving Adjei, has released a music video with the rhythmically contagious sixth track ‘Cry’, directed by Capone, the director behind visuals for Ms Banks, Backroad Gee, Nafe Smallz and Chip – and who previously helmed Headie’s visual for ‘Princess Cuts’. In the new video for ‘Cry’, Headie hosts his own Met Gala-inspired party with all attendees dressed to the nines.
