Dummy Mix 632 | Franc Moody
For London band Franc Moody, standing out from the crowd has never been a problem. Threading electronic influences through a skeleton of contemporary funk, disco and soul, the duo cut their teeth among the city’s tight-knit underground warehouse scene on their way to becoming one of the most unique home-grown dance acts about.
Emboldened by the likes of Daft Punk and Jamiroquai before them, their journey to recreate classic disco and funk experiences with a modern twist saw the duo swell to 6 members, successfully bolstering their impact and status as a live act. The band’s latest single ‘Mass Appeal’ is the mark of a new era for Franc Moody, its taut, digital funk providing a quiet commentary on consumer-driven culture.
The group’s exclusive Dummy mix explores what they were listening to while toasting the new offering. Clocking in at 1 hour and 4 minutes, it’s a whistle-stop tour of everything the group are about, perusing soul, funk, disco and beyond. “Here’s a little snapshot of some of the tunes that were in circulation around the time of writing ‘Mass Appeal’,” says the band: “Somewhere between the deepest depths of the black hole of funk, to the sharp and crisp productions of Olof Drejier, O’Flynn and Karma Kid emerged Mass Appeal…”
