Dummy Mix 602 | Lou Hayter
As far as multi-dimensional talents go, British musician, model and DJ maverick Lou Hayter is up there with the best. Since touring the world delivering a mélange of slinky synth-pop as part of the Mercury-nominated group New Young Pony Club, the London-based selector has gone on to form one half of Tomorrow’s World, a collaborative project with JB Dunckel from the seminal French band Air, as well as fronting ’80s New Wave duo New Sins. Harnessing the full extent of her idiosyncratic pop prowess for both her solo career and DJ work, Hayter explores a vast array of sounds from acid house, electro, disco, future pop, ’80s hits and beyond.
A riotous blend of those sounds are visited on her Dummy mix, where Hayter winds back the years to provide a smooth and nostalgic selection of bangers. “This is a mixtape of some of my influences from when I was a teenager first collecting records up to 2020. It goes through disco, acid house, electro, soul and my number one, Prince,” she says. “I’ve gone back to lots of stuff in lockdown like the first Moodymann album from ’97 and it sounds so perfect right now. There’s some clubby bits in the mix but hopefully it’s nice to listen to at home.”
