Grimes says she'll split royalties 50% on AI songs using her voice
Ahead of her AI-related keynote at this year's International Music Summit, Grimes has said that she will split 50 percent royalties on "any successful AI generated song" that uses her voice.
On Sunday, the pop star tweeted: “I'll split 50% royalties on any successful AI generated song that uses my voice. Same deal as I would with any artist I collab with. Feel free to use my voice without penalty. I have no label and no legal bindings.”
She added that she’s open to a world of possibilities: “Im just curious what even happens and interested in being a Guinea pig,” She also said she welcomes the open sourcing of art and an end to copyright.
Grimes' tweet was in the wake of the AI-generated hit Heart on My Sleeve going viral with deepfakes of multi-platinum artists Drake and The Weeknd. Her comments about splitting royalties were in response to an article stating how streaming services had removed The Weeknd x Drake AI track from their platforms.
Grimes will deliver a keynote on AI at this year's International Music Summit in Ibiza, kicking off April 26.
Taking place across three days, IMS will close with a speech from the 'Miss Anthropocene' singer on the topic of artificial intelligence, music technology and the metaverse.
